Hong Kong Kowloon Temple Street

Hong Kong Temple Street. Once a popular entertainment known as "Poor Man's Night Club" the Temple Street Night Market is the last remaining example in Hong Kong.

My new 50mm Angenuiex F1.8 Type S1 Lens built is very solid. Together with the Sony A7, it is a good combination. Bearing in mind that the time of photo taking was already in the evening time, the ability for the lens to capture the scenes without flash light is amazing.

Hong Kong Yau Ma Te Fruits center 果欄中的江湖大嫂 using Angenueix f1.8 Type S1

Yau Ma Te Fruits center has been a popular destination for photograph following the TVB TV series Last night, Keith & I finally has the chance to visit and do some photo shoot. I was using the Sony A7 with my latest Angeneuix F1.8 Type S1 lens. Really pleased with the lens.

Even though my camera is without the flash light, the Angeneuix 50mm F1.8 Type S1 lens is still able to capture the streets lights. Really loved the warm orange lights with green or blue...

Current camera gears

Current camera gears

Photography can be addictive hobby. Besides taking the actual time to do the photo shoot, there are also other considerations like camera body (film or digital), lenses etc to consider. Different lenses for example will have different results.

After much reading, researching, buying, using, and trading I have finally managed to streamline and form a small collection of what I like and what I need. My key consideration is that the equipment must have potential of appreciation in values so that in the event when I stopped the hobby, I can convert them back to cash without the need to lose money.

As a result, with the exception of the Sony A7, the rest of the gears are all classic vintage pieces where the quantities are limited, thereby, the resale prices are stable. For the A7, I have bought it at second hand where the depreciation has already been first absorbed by the first buyer.

For now. my key cameras bodies consist of :
1. Leica M3 Black Paint (1963) (plus a Leica 35mm SBLO view finder for 8 elements lens)
2. Olive M3 橄欖 Bundeseigentum  (f1964)
3. Sony A7 (from 2016)

 My key Lenses are :
1. Leica 50mmm Summricon f/2, V2 Black paint rigid from 1961 (For Leica M3 Black Paint)
2. Leica 50mm f2, V1 Summicron collapsible Radioactive from 1951 (For Leica M3 Olive)
3. Leica 35mm f2, V1 8 elements from 1960 (will need a Leica 35mm SBLO view finder)

4. P. Angeneuix 50mm f1.5
5. P. Angeneuix 50mm f1.8 Type SI
6. Lomo 50mm OKC1
7. Meyer Gorlitz Primoplan 58mm f1.9 lens

Angenieux 50mm f/1.8 Type S1 Modified to Leica M 日本宮崎改LEICA M

I have been looking at this Angenieux 50mm f/1.8 Type S1 Modified to Leica M lens for a while. Owing to its high price, I have been hesitating and doing much research to ensure that this is the lens that I want and I need. From the research, I know that this is a rare and highly collectible lens. I have managed to get a Angenueux 50mm f1.5 to test and was really fascinated by its colour and its special Bokeh.

However, even with its coupling function, the Angenenieux f1.5 can only be used in the Sony A7 camera as it will have black corner when used in the Leica M3 rangefinder camera. As such, I will have to make a serious decision whether to trade in my precious M4 Black paint plus cash top up for the rare lens??? Decision, decision decision.

One key motivating factor is that the Argenieux 50mm f1.8 Type S1 that I am keen has already been modified and upgraded to Leica M mount by a famous japanese 日本宮崎 and it can be used with my Leica M3 camera as well as the Sony A7. MS-Optical Lens is manufactured by Mr. Miyazaki in Japan.

I have finally pulled the trigger and this shall be my last major item to buy for my hobby. In return, I have also traded in my Leica M4 black paint body. I think it make more sense to focus on collecting different lenses as the lenses will produce different results in a more significant manner.

Alpa, Exakta, Praktica, Rectaflex.

50/f1.8 Type S1 (ca. 1942 - 1958) - L, C, E, M, A, R 版本.

Angenieux 50mm f1.5

Angenieux 50mm f1.5

This is a vintage Angenieux movie camera lens. According to the seller, the previous owner bought a nice old Leica lens and sacrificed its lens and used the body for the Angenieux. The lens has been modified to have a coupling function and it can be used in Rangefinder camera like M3, M4 but there are dark corners. For use in the Sony A7 is fine.

This is not a projector lens. It came from a film camera unit is now remounted to a 50mm leica lens barrel and original Leica M mount, and added range finder coupling, then properly centred. Marked on lens rim " P. Angenieux Paris F.50 1:1.5 ". There is no type number

This is not a projector lens.

There are 50mm projector ens available in the market. Many have asked on the possibility of using their 50mm projector lens on Leica.

Well, projector lens is not designed for taking pictures, if you really want to, bear in mind :

1/ NO 50mm projector lens can have back focus long enough to work on Leica.
2/ NO 50mm projector lens can cover 24x35mm full frame.

Of course there are users attempt to solve the above problem by using the front lens group only, but please remember :

A.  If you use the front lens group only, your 50mm lens becomes 100mm--125mm, depends on lens construction.
B.  If you use the front lens group only, your f1.5 lens becomes f3.5--f4.5, there is no free lunch.

As such, it is better to find  It has a true 50mm focal length and an effective aperture.

There are several types of Angenieux lens:

Type S (S/S1/S2/S21/S3/S5/S6...) Double Gauss (雙高斯結構) 50mm/75mm/100mm
Type R : RETROFOCUS...主要用在廣角鏡頭 24mm/28mm/35mm
主要在望遠...90mm/135mm/150mm
R: Retrofocus type
P: Ernostar-6 type (54)
Y: Ernostar-4 type (44)
X: Tessar type (四片三群)
Z: Triplet 三片式

All the French lenses produce exquisite and beautiful bokeh,The key charateriestics of the Angenieux lens are the great colour and it's special Bokeh (散景) when the lens are fully opened.

I am hoping for a type S1,

Happy New Year
