Meyer Gorlitz Primoplan 58mm f1.9 lens 雨果梅耶 (以散境而留名的鏡)

This is a famous Meyer Gorlitz Primoplan (雨果梅耶) 58mm f1.9 lens made for Kine Exakta. Meyer-Optik-Görlitz is an old German company founded in 1896 by famous optician Hugo Meyer and businessman Heinrich Schätze in Görlitz, Saxony. Company passed through turbulent periods in its history, almost disappearing as a brand during cold war (when it was absorbed by VEB Pentacon and VEB Carl Zeiss group).
  • Exakta mount.
  • Made by Meyer Gorlitz, in 1934.
  • Heavy brass barrel.
  • 5 elements in 4 groups.
  • Non-coated.
Originated from the Hugo-Meyer production year around 1934-1958, during which several versions were made. Collectors tended to split to 3 periods:
  1. Pre war 1934-1945, where the lens is uncoated and diameter is about 40mm (Brass body) 无膜白头. According to collector, the lens' quality is the best as it is un-coated.
  2. Post war 1946 lens at 40mm (Aluminium body) with a Red V
  3. 1950~1952 Beginning as a later version, the lens port is enlarged to 49mm (Aluminium body with a Red V). Late aluminum mirrors have two interfaces: Exakta, M42.

According to collectors, the optical design is extremely rare as it is neither Tessar nor Gauss structure. It is a variant Gauss group of five optical lens structure, and Meyer has an unparalleled special imaging achievements and Bokeh (以散境而留名的鏡) . The Primoplan's fantastic bokeh produces a very strange vibration Jelly like Bokeh. If you consider to buy Primoplan, you are most probably looking for its unique rendering of out of focus ares

As this is a very early first generation Meyer Primoplan lens (Hugo Meyer 在二战前生产过Primoplan 5.8cm / f1.9这支镜头。战前是给单反相机Kine-Exakta产的镜头,镜筒材质是黄铜镀铬) and it is made for single lens reflex without coupling, I have decided to send it to France for modification so that it has the ability for coupling to be used in Leica M3 and M4 camera.

Characteristics of the First version:
  1. Serial nos is 6 digits
  2. focusing distance 5.8cm ordering;
  3. distance distance Mtr
  4. Serial number is between  6 ***** - 9 *****;
  5. Un-coated lens
  6. No red V
